American Legion Auxiliary #136: Feb. 6

The American Legion Auxiliary is hosting a fashion show on Feb. 6. Tickets are $10 and include a new menu for lunch. The tickets for the show will be available at the door while they last. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., which will be followed by the fashion show.

Church of God of Prophecy: Feb. 9

Bokeelia Church of God of Prophecy are having their chicken dinner on Feb. 9 from 3-6 p.m. Call 283-2128 for take out.

Fishers of Men Lutheran Church: Feb 9

Fishers of Men Lutheran Church will hold its annual Arts and Craft Show on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Crafters from around the area will have many items on sale, which will include fused glass, purses, painted coconuts, palm fish, pottery, sewing and candles.

Pine Island Art Association: Feb. 9 and 10

The Pine Island Art Association's 41st Annual Art Show and Sale will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Matlacha Community Building, 4577 NW Pine Island Road. The show is always Matlacha's biggest event. It showcases the newest work of our artists. You will find Florida theme works, large and small, in all mediums, matted and framed and ready to hang. There will also be more than 500 of our popular original mini paintings by PIAA artists just $10 each. Join us at our show and stay to sample our home baked refreshments.

Friends of Pine Island Library: Feb. 12

On Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 12 p.m. the Friends of the Pine Island Library will be sponsoring an opportunity to meet and have lunch with author Tim Dorsey.

Dorsey has published sixteen novels in several languages: "Florida Roadkill," "Hammerhead Ranch Motel," "Orange Crush," "Triggerfish Twist," "The Stingray Shuffle," "Cadillac Beach," "Torpedo Juice," "The Big Bamboo," "Hurricane Punch," "Atomic Lobster," "Nuclear Jellyfish," Gator A-G Go," "Electric Barracuda," "When Elves Attack" and "Pineapple Grenade." His latest novel "The Riptide Ultra Glide" was released January 22, 2013.

Join the Friends of the Library for this exciting program to be held at the Elks Lodge, 5630 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia. Lunch at noon followed by talk at 12:45 PM.

Make your lunch reservation, which is $12 and includes a drink by Feb. 8. The lunch choices are provided by Little Lily's Island Deli: Italian sub, very veggie wrap and the big salad with a scoop of traditional tuna salad.

There will be a charge of $5 for those attending who brown bag or come only for the author's presentation.

Earth & Spirit Garden Gallery: Feb. 17

Earth & Spirit Garden Gallery will have a Sunday brunch in the garden to benefit C.A.T.S. on Feb. 17 from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. There is a $10 donation for a complete Pine Island breakfast prepared by Pamela Walker of "Rolling in the Dough."

There will also be a silent auction, which includes gift certificates, artwork, as well as other items that have been donated. Tickets are $1 and you do not have to be present to win.

Pine Island C.A.T.S. was founded and headed by Edith Schulte who has made it her mission to reduce or eliminate the feral cat population in a humane way. Working hand-in-hand with PAWS, a no-kill shelter, they have developed a program of trapping, neutering and releasing stray and feral cats that roam the island. Even though most of the cats trapped and treated are returned to where they were first picked-up, many have found their ways into permanent homes on the island.

First Baptist Church

Feb. 17

The Rob Mills Family, a music ministry, will perform a concert at First Baptist Church of Pine Island on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. A love offering will be received during the concert for the family. A dessert reception will follow the concert.

First Baptist Church

of St. James City: Feb. 17

The First Baptist Church of St. James City, located at 8th Avenue and Oleander Street are hosting a special music program on Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The Dominion Trio, Marvin, Nora, Tim and Bradley, are traveling from Salem, Virginia to present their musical talents.

St. John's Episcopal Church: Feb. 20

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 20, St. John's Episcopal Church, 7771 String-fellow Road will provide a "Soup and Simple" dinner open to the entire community at 5 p.m. in Comfort Hall. This will continue every Wednesday thru the Lenten season. Everyone is welcome to come. There will be an evening service following the dinner.

St. James City Civic Association: Feb. 22

Art Expo and The Photo Arts Group of the St. James City Civic Association call for entries for the Fifth Annual Greater Pine Island Photography Competition held Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. All photography must be the original work of the photographer.

Receiving is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the St. James City Civic Association, 3300 4th Street (at Lemon), and the judging is 1:30-2 p.m.. The entry fee is $4 per entry with a maximum of five entries per person. The opening reception of Art Expo is Friday Feb. 22 from 7-9 p.m. Art Expo and the Photo Competition are open Sat. Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The competition is open to Pine Island seasonal and resident photographers in the following categories and classes.
