A New York woman who was ejected from the back of a motorcycle during an accident late last month apparently died at the hospital from her injuries.

Officials reported Tuesday that Pearl August, 50, of New York, N.Y., had died at Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was taken following the Dec. 27 crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, August was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson southbound on McGregor Boulevard, which was being driven by Mark Hopper, 46, of Cape Coral. At 12:56 p.m., they came upon Gladiolus Drive.

Stopped at the intersection was a 2013 Mercedes C300 being driven by Susan M. Greenberg, 70, of Sanibel. Greenberg reportedly failed to observe the motorcycle and attempted to make a left hand turn onto McGregor.

The front of the Mercedes struck the left rear side of the Harley.

The impact ejected August from the rear of the motorcycle.

She was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.

August nor Hopper were wearing helmets, according to the FHP.

Hopper sustained minor injuries in the accident, along with Greenberg.

Neither of them were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Lt. Greg Bueno, a spokesman with the FHP, reported Thursday that Greenberg was issued a citation for violation of right of way.
