Museum of the Islands: MOTI’s Annual Holiday Open House Dec. 6
The Museum of the Islands is holding its Annual Holiday Open House Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will have a chance to peruse the museum’s fascinating permanent collections and talk with docents. At the same time you can shop for holiday gifts made by local craftspeople and artisans in addition to items in the Museum Gift Shop.
As you walk among the display cases of shells, dolls, antique tools and household items, you will see (and be able to purchase) arts and crafts items made by people here on the island. In addition to the extensive selection of items in the museum gift shop, there will be a number of great vendors on site to offer special goodies for your holiday needs. Hand-painted gift bags with cards, pottery, paintings, photography, stained glass, hand made soaps, cards, alcohol ink tiles, and jewelry are some of the items that will be available at the show. Plants will also be for sale. Local author Carol Wilson will be signing copies of her book.
There will be special children’s activities, including the popular Scavenger Hunt where participants search the museum for designated items. In the Gift Shop, the children’s table will have puzzles, books and trinkets for sale.
Please consider this a special invitation to join us for some holiday cheer at the annual MOTI Open House. We have planned a special event and hope you will join us for it. Admission to the museum for this event is free.
There will be live music by Island Frank as well as free light refreshments for your enjoyment while you shop. Tickets will be on sale for a 50/50 with the drawing to be held in February at the MOTI Rummage Sale at the St. James City Civic Association, 3300 Fourth Ave., St. James City.
The MOTI Annual Holiday Open House is a great place to purchase holiday gifts and even in time to send them up North! All proceeds from Gift Shop sales at the Open House benefit your museum. We hope you will come spend a fun morning with us, and at the same time, get some of your shopping done without even having to leave our beautiful island.
Happy holidays from MOTI – your museum on your island.
