Worry less and enjoy this magical season

2 min read

When I was young I remember driving around with my family after church on Christmas Eve looking at all of the magical Christmas lights in the community. I used to sit in the back seat with my siblings and worry about getting home in time to go to bed before Santa Clause was due to arrive down our chimney and under our tree. I just knew we would miss all of our Christmas presents if we didn’t hurry. Because, of course, everyone knows that Santa will not come if you are still awake! Seriously, I would fret and sweat sitting in the back seat of the car that I could not enjoy the Christmas light tour.

When we finally did arrive home I could breathe a sigh of relief! I do need to confess that I was the first one in bed and asleep. But wouldn’t you know it, after church we still needed to eat, take pictures and open one gift! AH! I have to go to sleep so Santa will come! Does NO ONE understand?

How many of us rush through the Christmas season because we are so caught up in our own worries of how things “should” be that we literally miss the Christmas magic of traditions and love our families and friends want to gift us with? This Christmas week, allow me to encourage all of us, to worry less about all of the “should’s” and “have-to’s” and enjoy the magic of love that we can feel, smell and taste all around us this Christmas season.
