CERT report for September 2009
The Pine Island Emergency Response Team welcomed eight new members in September. On Sept. 15, a get-together was held at at Fire Station #1 at the center where we all got a chance to meet the new members. Then, on Sept. 29, team members were treated to a Disaster Preparedness Seminar put on by Josh Roberts, disaster coordinator for Lee County Emergency Management. Future pans for Pine Island Cert include assisting with the Lee County H1N1 flu shot program in mid-October or possibly into November. CERT members will assist with traffic control, parking and provide directional services on site.
For those interested in disaster preparedness, check out Florida Disaster.org on your computer. Also, did you know that there is a special emergency number you can call for those with “special needs?” You can dial 211 for special assistance in emergencies.
CERT is still looking for new members. If you are interested you can stop at Fire Station #1 and pick up an application. To learn more about CERT go to WWW.LeeCert.org.
Pine Island CERT is in need of funds and if you or your organization would care to help out, please contact Julie Talmadge at 283-4476 for donations or to arrange a free 20-minute seminar presented on “Disaster Preparedness” to your group or organization.
