Local authors to speak at Pine Island Library

2 min read

Wednesday evening, March 4, at 6 p.m., award-winning local author Robert Macomber will be at the Pine Island Library. In his program, “Getting to Know The Honored Dead,” Bob will discuss his background research and his travels to the locales in the book. This latest novel in the Honor Series will be published in March. If you have attended one of Bob’s programs before, you know what a terrific speaker he is. If you have never had the opportunity to see one of Bob’s presentations, this is your chance. “The Honored Dead” promises to be one of his best novels yet.

Two weeks later, on Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m., local author Mary Kaye Stevens will discuss her behind-the-scenes research and interviews for her book “Images of America: Pine Island.” This book is a wonderful visual history of the island area. Mary Kaye will share additional stories not included in the book. You’re bound to learn something new about Pine Island.

For the more active among us, we’ll be doing some gaming at the library. A “We Love to Wii Family Gaming Fun” will be presented for family sports fans at 1 p.m. Saturdays, March 14 and April 25. We’ll also hold sessions on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. on March 25 and April 8. This is high energy fun. If you are in the library at these times, please have a peek at the goings on. For a quieter time, bring your young readers in for “Kids Read Down Fines.” At 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, and at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading in the allotted time. It is a great way for them to read away their fines. Additional dates are available, so check with the library staff for future opportunities. And don’t miss Fabulous Friday at 4 p.m. on March 27. “Ding” Darling Refuge Ranger Toni Westland will present a program on sea turtles to the after-school crowd.

We have been extremely busy at the library. The shelves look a little picked over but I promise you there are always good books, magazines and DVDs available. We have federal tax forms and computer access to state tax forms. Computers are available and 24/7 wireless access is provided. Swing by when you can.

The Pine Island Library is located near Pine Island Center at 10700 Russell Rd., NW. We’d love to see you.
