Matlacha Art Walk

Letter to the editor:

It’s ironic that “Friday Night Art Walks,” as a tradition, originated as an effort to encourage people who work in cities to stay a little later on Friday nights. This was in order to support the arts, galleries, restaurants and business in the city, as well as an effort to relieve rush hour traffic leaving the city.

Having “Friday Night Art Walks” in Matlacha makes no sense. It belongs on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Having it on Fridays is inconsiderate to the people who live on Pine Island and have to leave and return during rush hours.

It’s also creating an unnecessarily dangerous situation at dusk in a tiny, congested area, with unfamiliar cars and people looking for parking, walking between cars and so on, not to mention emergency vehicles.

Can the Matlacha business district consider an alternative that doesn’t create a nightmare for the overall community?
