Proud of our country’s progress

To the editor:

I was proud to hear the State of the Union message.

The State of the Union is strong on job growth, relations with our allies, and united in its support of Ukraine in their efforts to defend themselves against the unprovoked advances by Putin’s Russian army. Biden’s strengthening of NATO and behind-the-scenes coordination with our allies has once again demonstrated that our nation can lead the free world.

Hope was the theme and unity the message to all Americans. Please heed the message and look to your fellow Americans for unity not division.

Repairing bridges and thousands of miles of highways that have been long neglected will soon be a reality. American can look to becoming again an infrastructure leader. Electric charging stations throughout our nation will begin to end our dependence on oil and gas. Internet will soon be available in very home, no matter how remote.

The tide is turning on COVID defenses; tests, vaccines and a pill to reduce hospitalization by approximately 90 percent will be available very soon.

President Biden again introduced measures widely popular with the American people, but already rejected by Republicans — lower prescription drug prices, the authority for Medicare to negotiate lower prices, free community college and help with child care costs. Congress should reconsider; Americans want these benefits.

Bravo for President Joe Biden, a proven world statesman and president for all Americans.
