New Little Free Library at The Palms at Pine Island

To the editor:
Inspired by Pine Island’s natural beauty and an enthusiasm for providing books to readers, woodworker Don Saxon and Pine Island artists Kim Barocco and Tom Vanderveld collaborated to build and paint a brand new Little Free Library for The Palms at Pine Island in Bokeelia.
Little Free Libraries operate on the principle, “Take a book, Share a book.” The first LFL at The Palms was installed in 2016. Since then hundreds of books have been enjoyed. It is so well used, that a new one was needed, as the original was beginning to look a bit worn.
Joann Botta, an island resident and former librarian, has become the island’s volunteer “book whisperer.” She devotes much of her time hunting down good reads and placing them in the LFL at The Palms as well other Little Free Libraries on the island. She is grateful to the Pine Island Community Church for its donations to help keep the libraries filled.
It seems as though everyone on the island loves these little libraries. It is from the generosity and kindness of friends, strangers and neighbors – fellow book lovers – that the little libraries continue to serve as year-round literary gems for our community.
Please stop by The Palms, take a look, take a book and share a few of your own. Thank you to everyone who help to make good and kind things happen. For more information about Little Free Libraries please visit their website: www.littlefreelibrary.org
Happy reading,
