‘Miss Kitty’ finds new home
To the editor:
“Miss Kitty” of the new Ace Hardware (formerly True Value) found a new home across the 4-way stop at Kramer’s Kutting Edge.
A lot of residents were upset about Miss Kitty being re-homed after residing at the hardware store for over 13 years. There was a bit of a public outcry. She is considered an icon here.
We’d like to, somehow, let everyone know that she is doing just fine. She has, at least, one to three visitors that come just to see her every day. She recognizes and comes out to greet them and demands a treat. Her visitors range from a young woman in high school to a local shrimp boat captain who earned the nickname of Miss Kitty’s “boyfriend” years ago.
Everybody seems to have their own entertaining story about her. Some interesting facts … she was abandoned when her owner moved from the neighborhood behind Circle-K. She then tried to blend in with the feral cats. When the back door of the hardware store was open, she would walk in and make herself at home. She would be escorted out because she would set the alarms off at night. She had three known litters of kittens. After the third litter, she was spayed. She was then taken into the hardware store to recover.
The new owners of Ace Hardware have been very conscientious about her transition here … even picking her up and taking her to the veterinarian for a check up.
Everyone knows Miss Kitty will not tolerate animals on her property. It was challenging to find a new home that had no pets. We were already considering adopting a “shop cat” at Kramer’s Kutting Edge when Miss Kitty’s plight became public. We didn’t want a kitty that would feel lonely when we leave each day.
Miss Kitty is thrilled to have her space to herself after hours.
