VFW holds Spirit of 45 Ceremony

To the editor:
The Spirit of 45 Ceremony honoring the “Greatest Generation” was held Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, at the Marriott Resort in Fort Myers. Over 300 people attended to show respect to the World War II veterans. Thirty-eight World War II veterans were present.
The ceremony was very moving, with many attendees remembering family that had served during the war, who were unable to attend.
Eryka Aptaker the chairperson for Lee County Spirit of 45, reminisced on the past 11 years of the program and understood that every year the group gets smaller. She coordinated a flawless event that included a dinner, speeches, performances by the Guns and Hoses Pipes n’ Drums and the Honor Guard of Lee County Sheriffs Office.
The VFW was well represented not only as a sponsor, but also in attendance representing three VFW’s and District 13, keeping with the motto “No one does more for Veterans.”
The Spirit of 45 continues to live on, the second Sunday in August will always be used to show honor and respect for those of the “Greatest Generation.”
