Many thanks
To the editor:
I would like to first of all thank Mr. Tom Ashford for his June 4, 2021 Breeze article “Remembering the Fallen” in honoring his father 2nd Lt, George Ashford who was killed on a bombing mission over Germany in September 1944 during World War II. God bless you, Sir. May we all feel the compassion for your loss along with the love for all those men and women whose sacrifices afforded all in this great nation the freedoms we enjoy today. Being a toddler at the time of his death you could only know about his life through the memories of your family.
We as a nation, not only on Memorial Day but everyday, should honor those patriots, as your father, whose eternal sacrifice gave us these freedoms. Memorial Day is not about celebration as so many would want you to believe, but rather about remembering and honoring those heroes who gave their last full measure of devotion on the battlefield for all of us. Through the years those who have borne the battle reflect on Memorial Day with great sorrow.
Our families, friends and heroes who made this ultimate sacrifice are remembered by the many marble markers around the world. Let we as a nation solemnly honor those sacrifices of “No Greater Love” everyday.
Second, I would like to thank those from the Cape Coral Breeze for Mr. Ashford’s article honoring his father. Well done on reflecting on the true meaning of Memorial Day.
