PIE’s Strickland honored by DAR Lawrence Kearny Chapter

On May 19, the Lawrence Kearny Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, visited Pine Island Elementary School. Honorary Regent Dinah Osborn and former Historian Wendy Kline presented the DAR Youth Citizenship certificate and pin to the chosen fifth grade student Alissa Strickland, at Pine Island Elementary.
The requirements for the award are based upon the five qualities of “Honor, Service, Courage, Leadership and Patriotism.” Students who exemplify those qualities are selected by the school to receive the DAR Youth Citizenship Award as follows:
Honor: honesty-high principles, trustworthiness, loyalty, truthfulness, punctuality, moral strength and stability, cleanliness in mind and body.
Service: cooperation, meritorious behavior bringing honor to school or community, kindliness, unselfishness, true Americanism-individual responsibility to Home, to County, to God.
Courage: mental and physical, determination to overcome obstacles.
Leadership: personality, originality, ability to lead and hold others, good sportsmanship-responsibility.
Patriotism: fundamental Americanism.
It was an honor to present Alissa the award. We appreciate your participation in the DAR Youth Citizenship Award Program.
