HB 241 good for parents and students

To the editor:

The pandemic has given parents an opportunity to see, via their children’s Zoom class, what is being taught in our classrooms. Parents all over the country are starting to rise up and stand against Critical Race Theory that teaches all “white people” are racist oppressors and all “non-white” people are oppressed victims. This is just one example of the radical ideas being pushed. The Federal government is looking to devote $6 billion to “Woke” education in a new Civics bill. It is a neo-Marxist Trojan horse that includes the “1619 Project” version of history, which has been widely debunked as revisionist and full of inaccuracies.

Marx and Mao Zedong believed in indoctrinating school children as their way of insuring their radical ideology for the future. It did not end well. Our children need to be taught critical thinking, excellence in all academic subjects and to know we are a flawed but good country.

I’ve read the proposed HB 241 legislation for our state. A section is called “Parents’ Bill of Rights.” Of course it is a parent’s right to teach whatever they like at home, but it is also the parent’s right to have their child abstain from information or actions (health care decisions) that are in contradiction to that family’s ideals. They must be given the information to make that choice.

I highly recommend parents and grandparents read this bill. Get involved. We need to take the schools out of the hands of far left politicians and the so-called educational experts and return them to the people they are meant for: the students and their families. The future of our country depends on it.
