To the editor:
It’s so important to understand the difference between a biased partisan opinion and factual data. A recent contributor stated, and I quote, “these states have big numbers because they are very populated states” when referring to the data provided by a previous contributor regarding deaths by state from COVID-19 virus, AKA “Chinese Virus.”
No, that is completely false. The states being erroneously defended have high numbers listed in deaths per 100,000 residents, which accounts for populous versus sparsely populated states. The original article to which this contributor has referred was in defense of an inaccurate and misleading assault on our Florida governor demeaning his record against COVID while providing no comparable data from his peers in other states. New Jersey and New York own the top two spots in deaths per 100,000 residents with 253/100k and 237/100k respectively. New York has about 20 million in population and New Jersey about 9 million. Rhode Island only has about 1 million in population but holds the number 4 spot in deaths per 100,000 in population with 221/100k. There are 25 states plus the District of Columbia that have a higher death rate than Florida has. Florida has a higher population than New York and New Jersey but has a death rate of only 136/100k population. Which one do you think is better and where would you rather live during this pandemic?
The author falsely claimed that seven of the top 10 deaths per 100k states are “Red” states. Of the nine states he cites, only two are even in the top 10 for COVID deaths and one, Rhode Island, he claims as a red state but they have had a Democratic governor since 2015. Where has this guy been? But yes, they are ranked number 4 on the death rate list and their governor, Gina Raimondo, is under fire for the horrible job she has done on the very limited vaccine rollout and their high death rate.
This article was filled with false (uninformed or intentional) information but this is what liberals count on. They can make up anything and get it printed and they hope you will not scrutinize their “facts.” Just “take their word for it.”
