American Legion Post 136 welcoming new members
To the editor:
Calling all veterans, sons, grandparents, grandchildren, wives, sisters and daughters of veterans.
On July 30, 2019, President Trump signed The Legion Act into law. This act changed the required eligibility for veterans wanting to join the American Legion. Some veterans were not allowed to join because of the war eras defined by Congress many years ago. The Legion Act changes that. The new eligibility membership dates are from April 6, 1917, to Nov. 11, 1918, and now spans from Dec. 7, 1941, until present day, or when Congress determines the United States is no longer at war.
This act also allows the eligibility of our veteran sons, daughters, spouses, grandchildren, grandparents, brothers and sisters to become American Legion members.
Post 136 in St. James City encourages anyone who is a veteran or family member of a veteran to become members. The post services not only our veterans and their families, but supports many of the organizations on Pine Island.
