The Greater Pine Island Veterans of Foreign Wars continues efforts to ‘do more for veterans’
To the editor:
The Greater Pine Island Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4353 has been a part of Pine Island life for over 70 years. We have weathered hurricanes, financial downturns and the current COVID-19 pandemic and continue to do the good work of the VFW and serve our veterans and the community.
The VFW motto of “No one Does More for Veterans” is taken very literally, however not only do we help our veterans and their families but also our outreach to the community is vital to our continued success. We offer scholarships to middle school students through our Patriot’s Pen essay contest and to high school students with the Voice of Democracy contest. We recognize local first responders including the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Matlacha and Pine Island Fire Control, and Public Safety. Our Post 4353 has a trained and certified service officer who can assist veterans in distress around the clock and provides guidance in processing Veterans Affairs (VA) claims.
Twice a year Post 4353 conducts the VFW’s Buddy Poppy Drive, on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, which collects donations that are solely used to help veterans in need. Many more activities take place at the Post 4353 that all are welcome to be part of and become part of our family.
The Greater Pine Island VFW Post 4353 welcomes EVERYONE (VFW members, all veterans and civilians) for daily lunch and weekly entertainment and dinner specials. VFW Post 4353 will continue to observe and enforce all recommendations of the CDC and mandates. Our canteen is open daily and we offer great value priced beverages and food. Entertainment has started back up again with Karaoke every Sunday 5-8 p.m. with meals available. We also have our famous breakfast every other Sunday, which is the best value on the Island! We have entertainment bands and singers twice a month. The “V” welcomes EVERYONE, veterans and guest.
Check out our calendar of events at our web page at https://vfwpost4353.com/ or find us on Facebook for the latest happenings. Sign up for our newsletters to keep up to date. Drop by the “V” and make some new friends and enjoy a cold beverage. No one does more for veterans than the Greater Pine Island VFW Post 4353.
