Moved to reverse climate change
To the editor:
We’ve all seen and heard things about climate change, and I wasn’t paying much attention. After viewing two National Geographic films – “Before the Flood” and “Chasing Ice” – I was concerned. It startled me to learn we only have 10 years to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent.
We have the technology today to achieve this. We must globally scale up current renewable technologies while simultaneously reducing our use of fossil fuels. This requires capital, but there is a multiple return on investment. We will reduce emissions while investors enjoy a profit, jobs are created, and economies are stimulated.
After the National Geographic films, I read Paul Hawken’s book “Drawdown,” which presents the top 100 ways to avert the climate crisis. This motivated me to action, and I am now involved with several organizations which are working to fight climate change.
If you want to learn more go to www.drawdown.org,www.climaterealityproject.org and www.citizensclimatelobby.org and download and watch the National Geographic films referenced above. As Greta Thunberg says – no one is too small to make a difference. A challenge to each of us – what difference will you make?
