President’s actions were the right response; now it’s time for peace
To the editor:
When the U.S. is hit, it is often fair to hit back. Last week, U.S. and Iraqi allies did just that when we killed a prominent Iranian general, in response to their failed embassy attack.
Thank God for President Trump and his leadership at protecting our American citizens in Iraq. Regardless of your opinion of him, and mine is generally unfavorable, I commend him for these actions.
But we cannot have John Bolton’s war. We elected President Trump because, unless the neocons who dominated the GOP in the 2000s, President Trump wanted peace.
We forget that earlier this year, President Trump asked Sen. Rand Paul to backdoor negotiate with Iran. France, too, was helping us in these endeavors before President Rouhani called them off.
Let us not engage in tit-for-tat. The God of our great nation is the same God the Ayatollah prays to five times a day, and He wants peace, not war. Both sides must come to the table now.
