Beacon of HOPE remains a strong, Integral part of the community

To the editor:

Dear fellow islanders, the Beacon of Hope continues to be a strong and Integral part of our island community; lending a hand up to our fellow islanders.

Our Client Services, Beacon Bites, Veterans, GED and ESOL programs continue to be a positive in our community. It may be off season for some businesses, but we are operating at full capacity for you and your neighbors.

Our Wellness Committee continues to provide informative and useful seminars and classes on health issues and concerns. Useful articles on health issues are printed in the Pine Island Eagle on a regular basis.

From Our Hearts, which is under the Beacon umbrella, is strong and true to their original mission “to provide screening and treatment to qualified breast cancer patients on Pine Island.” Pink Fest will be in full swing on Sunday at Miceli’s and makes for a great time while supporting a worthy cause.

Our Annual Holiday House is set for December 5, 6 and 7 at the Tarpon Lodge to kick off the Christmas season. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and always a success thanks to the support we receive from our wonderful neighbors, friends and patrons.

Although we have eliminated the bus route for the time being, we are still transporting clients to medical and doctor appointments 5 days a week. This is a definite need on our island. If you would like to be a volunteer driver, please give us a call at 239-283-5123. It is a worthwhile mission and can make a true difference in someone’s life.

Last, but not least, our Thrift Store continues to thrive and provide for the community. Whether you purchase items from the store or donate items to the store, in every way you are helping our community.

If you are interested in learning more about the Beacon of Hope or volunteering for one of our programs, please call 239-283-5123.
