Bird Bingo a success

To the editor:

Pine Island is incredibly lucky to have the range of birds that we do, both our permanent residents and the migratory “snowbirds.” Plus, many of them are easy to recognize, if not ID.

2018 was the Audubon Society’s Year of the Bird. To encourage us Pine Islanders get to know more of our birds, and to explore more of the island, the Pine Island Library, in partnership with the Calusa Land Trust, created a “Bird Bingo” game that was played during the month of October, prime migratory season in Southwest Florida.

I really enjoyed filling out the squares on the bingo sheet over the course of the month, especially for birds I’d not ID’d before. By the end of October, I even got a bingo!

Plus, in the process of playing the game, my husband and I visited some of the CLT preserves. These preserves are great places for a trail walk and for bird watching.

I’m hoping the library and CLT will repeat Bird Bingo next October.
