Socialist things?
To the editor:
I’ve never written a letter to the editor, I am a Democrat, I find the word Socialist an easy word to use but not really understood. I don’t see the new laws allowing fracking, school vouchers, raiding Social Security, allowing tailings from mining coal and other mining to go into our waters, Veterans’ health money stolen after our vets have given blood, sweat, wounds and sometimes their lives as socialist activities. Do you see these as “Socialist” things? The money spent on these things are a pittance and Social Security is self supported, but again mostly GOP raided Social Security rushing it to an early death.
Providing access to birth control and reproductive education dramatically drops the numbers of unwed mothers that will then require assistance or seek abortions. All this can be looked up as FACT. Barriers to working include poor education and just being poor. Facts as well. Providing birth control is labeled as “Socialist.” The benefits of these programs far out-weigh the cost of raising unwanted children. In other words it saves money! FACT!
If any of you are retired, I suggest volunteering at the library reading program or at the elementary school. I did it for years in Alaska and it is a load of fun. It is a way of giving back that makes a difference.
Please feel free to ask and talk to “the other side” because we want to talk to you and be on the same side. We want term limits, no more gerrymandering, stop the lobby money and the crazy benefits given to the representatives. We want a good look at the pharmaceutical industry, clean water, schools to get their fair share of the tax money (teachers are 17 percent behind in raises and education in America has dropped to 14th in the world), we want to preserve our national parks for the future children of America to enjoy, we want clean drinking water, a living wage is already proven in other countries to not only help the economy but to remove many of the poor from the government systems. The more poor we have, the more crime we will have. The more poor we have, the less they will be able to afford rent, food and clothing. Those things are socialist things Feeding the poor, housing the poor and clothing them. Some call it Christianity because Jesus asked us to feed and cloth the poor. I call it the right thing to do.
I have worked hard my entire life. I have worked giving out benefits to the poor, owned a hardware store, worked in banks, helicopter office and a few other miscellaneous jobs. Currently, I am enjoying retirement and I have time to visit. Let’s look these facts up together if you are interested. Let’s work on what we agree on we can vote on what we don’t agree on. That is how Americas should be, working together. I believe corporate America is in charge now. We must rise above together.
