Lions ‘Wheel of Pine Island Fortune’ a real success

Thanks to all the families who stopped by the Greater Pine Island Lions’ “Wheel of Pine Island Fortune” at the recent Kiwanis Fall Festival to allow their children to spin the wheel and pick up prizes. Many of the booths ran out, but we had planned for a crowd and still had some “stuff” to the very end (and brought that home for next time).
The “Stuffed Goblins” were the most popular (thank you Paradise Vending), the toothbrushes and toothpaste came in second, sun glasses were a close third and from there we lost count.
We are pleased that everyone enjoyed playing the game and we will be back next year. Parents voiced the opinion that they liked the idea that the kids get to make their own decisions about what they want to take as a prize!
The Greater Pine Island Lions will also have a booth at the upcoming Matlacha Mariners’ Home Town Carney on Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Winn-Dixie parking lot. We will not have the “Wheel” with us there – instead we will have the bean bag toss with a Greater Pine Island Lion (wooden sign) with an open mouth to catch the bean bag.
Come play the game and win more prizes. The game will cost from $1 to $5, depending on the level of prize you want to try to win. Adults are welcome to play also.
A table will also be set up at our booth for you to gather information about the Greater Pine Island Lions Club. Like all nonprofits on the Island, we too need members to help us with ideas and to work the games. So please stop by and let us tell you about the Lions Club International which is celebrating its 100-year centennial next year (2017) and our own GPI Lions Club will be celebrating our 50 years here on Pine Island in 2019! We are one of the oldest service organizations on the Island.
Besides having fun, we earn money to help those who cannot afford eye exams, glasses and even surgeries that might be diagnosed by the exam. Members of GPI Lions can take the information and get them started with the process of getting these services. If you live on Greater Pine Island (including Bokeelia, Pineland, Matlacha and St. James City) and cannot afford these much needed services, get in touch with us! Call Mary at 239-283-9761.
