Please fight an increase in toxic chemicals in our waters
To the editor:
The Florida Clean Water Network notified the G.P.I.C.A. that the State of Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection is planning on allowing an increase in the amount of toxic and/or carcinogenic chemicals permitted in our waters. They requested that concerned citizens and civic organizations petition our government officials to send a resolution to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency objecting to Florida’s action.
Below is the letter we have sent to our Lee County Commissioners.
Dear Lee County Commissioners John Manning, Cecil Pendergrass, Larry Kiker, Brian Hamman and Frank Mann:
The Greater Pine Island Civic Association has voted unanimously to request that the Lee County Commissioners send a Resolution to the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as follows:
A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF LEE COUNTY
Whereas, Lee County strives to provide its citizens and visitors with safe clean water for drinking, swimming, fishing and shellfish harvesting.
Therefore, be it resolved that the Lee County Commissioners DISAPPROVE of the proposal by Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to allow an INCREASE in the amount of toxic and/or carcinogenic chemicals in Florida’s waters.
