Massive traffic jams coming?

1 min read

To the editor:

I had been wondering why the land was being cleared on the north side of Pine Island Road going off the Island. Thanks to Mike Shevlin, “Local Knowledge,” I now know. A 26-acre commercial parcel with about 16 acres that can be developed. The development is expected to be anchored by a supermarket that could include space for a gas station or a convenience store. They also have a developmental order for a 156-unit condominium community.

For the last two years, during season, we have had lines going off the Island backed up, at times, to the four way stop. And lines coming on the Island backed up, at times, to Burnt Store Road. With this new development, I wonder how anyone will be able to get off the Island during season. 156 units might equal an additional 200-plus vehicles along with those vehicles visiting the stores in that area.

Am I the only one that can envision a massive traffic jam on Pine Island Road at that intersection.

Can anyone help me understand the insanity in this?
