The 4th of July was another WOW day

To the editor:

A special thanks from the American Legion to all residents and volunteers of Greater Pine Island. With the temperature of 93-plus degrees, a heat index in excess of 100 degrees, the community showed up to support our Independence Day festivities.

The American Legion Post 136 family is again proud to host this great holiday. Several months ahead of the 4th, numerous hours were spent by our volunteers getting ready for this birthday celebration. Just getting all the necessary permits, getting the fireworks picked up, planning the food and getting the parade organized is no easy undertaking.

A great big thank you to our Post volunteers that got the procession assembled and started at exactly 10 a.m. Exceptional thanks to the float builders and participants that walked or rode in the procession. The food preparation and server volunteers that worked from 12-6 p.m. deserve a standing ovation and thank you. Thank you also to the WOW team of volunteers that set off the breathtaking aerial display and grand finally fireworks to close out the day of celebration.

I can’t begin to tell everyone how proud I am to be an American living in the land of the free and home of the brave. I am very proud to be living on Pine Island, what we know as paradise. Last, I am so proud and honored to be part of American Legion Post 136.
