Do we need Fire Station #4?

To the editor:

Our Fire Board has asked for and won a recent tax increase. They stated a need for equipment and other rising costs.

This is a suggestion to save costs of the new building (est. $2 million) and manning it (est. $400,000 yearly): Cape Coral is also planning a new station along Burnt Store Road only 2.75 miles north of our proposed station. Do people of Matlacha Isles and Cape Royal care whose truck or ambulance answers their emergency calls? I do not think so. Hopefully our Fire Board will pursue, with good faith, the possibility of Cape Coral covering these areas with our financial support.

Hopefully, the board will meet with the Cape and report back to us, for this could be a win-win situation for both fire districts.
