Thanking Bill Thacher for his charity involvement
To the editor:
I read in the Eagle recently about Bill Thacher’s retirement from the Greater Pine Island Water Association as general manager. Bill has led the water company through some interesting times and I am sure that the new manager, Laurie Adams, will be busy adding her touch.
Bill, however, will be strongly missed for more than his involvement with the water company. His community involvement has been exemplary.
When I moved here more than 12 years ago, it was Bill who recruited me into Kiwanis. He was a very active member, serving as treasurer for five years (’05-’10) and as secretary for two years (’13-’15). In addition, he was a tireless worker in Kiwanis projects such as The Taste of Pine Island and Casino Night.
In addition, Bill has been extremely involved in the Beacon of H.O.P.E., serving on the board of directors and as treasurer and also as a math teacher in the GED program.
I think it is safe to say that remembering Bill will evoke more charity involvement than his directing the water company.
We all owe Bill a tremendous amount of gratitude for his unselfish involvement and support of projects on Pine Island.
