Islander does not support millage increase for new fire station

To the editor:

I do not support the increase in millage to build a new fire station in Matlacha. I believe our personnel do a fine job but what this Island needs is better EMS response and coverage, not another fire station.

If you will remember when we approved the Bokeelia station, we were led to believe we would get additional EMS personnel but the county stated they could not afford the expense after we built the station. Surprised?

Also consider the traffic gridlock in Matlacha and how this would affect response time. Let’s get creative and do better with the monies we have to support the Islanders without another tax increase.
