Thanks to the churches for their help with our fundraiser
To the editor:
We, the Ladies of the Elks, want to personally thank the Methodist Church, the Lutheran Church and the Community Church of Pine Island for their willingness to help in our time of need.
Shortly before our fundraiser was to take place, we were informed that due to construction issues our fundraising event scheduled for Jan. 21 could not be held at the Lodge. When they explained that we would have an unfinished floor and no bathrooms, we had to agree. Can you imagine … here we are with over 100 tickets sold, food brought and prepared, a speaker booked and no place to hold the fundraising event.
Well, the outcome couldn’t have been better because once again it reminded us of what a special place and people we have on this island. We reached out to the Methodist Church, the Lutheran Church and the Community Church and guess what? All three of them had the same response. What do you need and how can we help? I can’t even begin to tell you how much that meant to our group.
We held our event and thanks to all the helping hands, were able to raise $2,000 for needy people on the island. I wonder if the church families know how special they are. A big thank you to all of you for opening your heart and your doors to help us help others.
