Lions’ collections continue
To the editor:
Reminder: Drop box items we collect – used or new eyeglasses (prescription and readers), used or new sunglasses (prescription or non-prescription), glasses cases, greeting cards (new and used), postage stamps (new and used) and hearing aids. We also collect personal items hotels and motels give out, or any other personal items you may have that have not been opened. We also collect used computer ink cartridges.
All of these items are recycled into our community or to Lions International. The glasses, cases all to go LI for repairs, refurbishing and reissuing in the States and to missionaries in foreign countries. The postage stamps go to VA hospitals were veterans use them as tiles for creating artwork as rehabilitation. The personal items go to shelters in Fort Myers. The greeting cards go to Lighthouse of SW Florida for rehab or volunteer work. They “clean up” the used cards, remove writing, insert the artwork and verse into plain white cards with their identification on the back, into new envelopes and sell them in their “store” – cheap. Also, they pack various cards at different times of the year and send them to military bases for the men and women to have to send home to relatives and friends.
If you have medical items, such as walkers, canes, wheelchairs, you can call F.I.S.H. at 283-4442. If they do not need them, you can call Pine Island Community Church Thrift Shop at 283-9944 for their medical room.
The Greater Pine Island Lions Club drop boxes are at the Beacon of H.O.P.E., Pine Island Community Church, Family Hair Salon (Winn-Dixie plaza), Pine Island Library, Stonegate Bank, Lutheran Church and the clubhouse at Pine Island Cove. In Matlacha, we have drop boxes at Spa 33 and the U.S. Post Office. These boxes are emptied once a month.
Thank you for recycling!
