Pine Island Plan: Progress being made

2 min read

To the editor:

The Lee County Attorney’s Office has dropped the requirement of confidentiality and I have therefore agreed to work with them in reviewing proposals to change the Pine Island Plan. Of course, I will report all proceedings to the Pine Island Planning Committee. That’s progress.

We have also made big time progress in preparing to defend our Plan and review change proposals. The Pine Island Planning Committee (open to all Pine Islanders) held its first meeting on May 18 already has 125 members. We have a Facebook page at PineIslandPlan which already has some 400 members. And we have a website at pineislandplan.com with plenty of valuable Pine Island planning information for you to read.

Most importantly, we have an executive board and an extensive list of liaison officers to Pine Island organizations as well as project committees with chairs devoted to issues we need researched in order to be prepared to defend our current land plan and deal with proposed changes.

See the website at pineislandplan.com for the listing of liaisons and project chiefs, and pick the ones in which you would like to be involved. If you want to volunteer to be a liaison to some organization not already listed, please send an email to our Registrar Renee Pollack at renee33019@gmail.com, with a cc to me coolcherokee@comcast.net. Renee will update the listing. If you want to volunteer to assist one of the project committees, please send an email to the listed project committee chair. If you want to chair a project committee not already listed, email me at coolcherokee@comcast.net.

This crisis, like the ones before it, will pass – for better or for worse. Either way, you will be glad you were involved and proud to say we all did all we could to preserve our incredible coastal rural paradise. Please volunteer when and where you can.
