To the editor:

The Beacon of H.O.P.E. needs your financial support, large or small, to match a $30,000 pledge from a Beacon of H.O.P.E. believer and supporter to create the Beacon Community Learning Center. Island residents must match the value of this pledge which together will meet half the needed $120,000 renovation cost.

From Hurricane Charley in a rented building to its newly purchased home at 5090 Doug Taylor Circle, the Beacon has grown in its service to Pine Island residents. A third of the new building will become the Beacon Community Learning Center, which will serve a wide variety of programs for young and older island residents.

Some of these programs include after school and summer programs for young people, senior citizens learning and socializing opportunities, job counseling, Pine Island Playhouse, support meals, GED and other opportunities as they arise. These activities are currently spread out in temporary spaces but the $120,000 fundraising drive jump started by a $30,000 pledge will create a permanent home. With the match from island residents we will be half way to our goal and able to start the renovation process. With generous individual donations we can complete the Community Leaning Center.

As a new island resident who became involved in the Beacon a few years ago, I encourage each reader to explore what the Beacon of H.O.P.E. offers Pine Island residents. I think you will be amazed and proud how the light from the Beacon of H.O.P.E. has touched so many and earned the respect of many off the island and across the state of Florida.

Will you join me and help the Beacon move to the next and a new level of service with a tax-deductible donation today. Make checks payable to the Beacon of H.O.P.E. Pine Island, designate the Community Leaning Center, and mail them to 5090 Doug Taylor Circle, St. James City, Florida 33956. Questions or comments can be directed to Betsy Haesemeyer, Beacon of H.O.P.E. Executive Director, at 239-283-5123.

I would like to personally thank you in advance for your donation and or support. Remember, no donation is too small.
