Smoking and vaping may soon be a thing of the past at the American Legion Post 136

To The editor:

Again, for the second year straight, the leadership is working a campaign to change the constitution to ban smoking and vaping within the building. There are rules to be followed and I am not certain all requirements are being followed by running ads in the Pine Island Eagle announcing 20 free memberships to veterans to vote on a smoking ban.

It seems to me a lot of time and effort has been spent listening to a small vocal group against smoking? If there is such concern about the current veterans’ health, then why hasn’t the current leadership entertained the idea of holding a non-smoking class at the American Legion Hall?

Why hasn’t the Legion leadership reached out to the past returning veterans suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome? To me it is quite simple to gather medical professionals to hold meetings focusing on a way to help our vets. I for one have life issues after my recent return home fighting pirates and terrorists off the Horn of Africa. I am currently seeking help outside the Legion, but if we had a program, I would utilize our own resources.

What is the next positive step for the American Legion Post 136?
