More on emergency calls/traffic in Matlacha

To the editor:

In regards to the letter to the editor written by Tom Pollock in the March 18 issue of the Eagle, I had to write about my neighbor’s son.

He couldn’t breathe because of a severe asthma attack. He asked his mom to take him to the emergency room at Cape Coral Hospital.

Knowing he wasn’t going to make it that far, they went to the fire station at the Center.

They called EMS and they did what they could but knew he wasn’t going to make it through Matlacha in time so he had to be air lifted. He was in a coma for 6 days in ICU and in the hospital for 9 days.

He is now home but couldn’t walk on his own. Thank God for neighbors. My one neighbor heated up his hot tub and with the help of others got him in it. He is now doing better and getting stronger.

I’m wondering if the shops, restaurants and art shops in Matlacha want to pitch in for the air flight?

How about his parents that watched their son go through a life or death situation?

How many other close calls were there that we don’t know about? Write in, that may be saving someone’s life.
