Seasonal traffic has always been with us
To the editor:
In last week’s edition, an islander stated, “This delay both ways would dissuade many … from buying real estate on Pine Island” This reminded me exactly why I moved to SJC.
When I came here I asked a life-long Florida Realtor (who started in SJC but moved to Naples many years ago) where I could find an out-of-the-way small town that would not become like Sanibel. His advice was to look at Pine Island because when the Matlacha dropping area was listed as a place to be preserved, the developers could never build a 65-foot bridge to the island so they could put up high-rise condos or large developments.
I don’t mind the wait and I stop often to let other cars and pedestrians cross in Matlacha. I have emailed the sheriff about the on-street pavement parking since it is a danger to bicycles. The authorities obviously don’t care about that.
When I hear residents of Island Drive complain, I wonder what changed since they moved here. Seasonal traffic has always been with us. In a few months it will all be better.
