The Matlacha Hookers has come to be known as an organization that truly makes a difference in this community, and that wouldn’t be possible without the support of such a fantastic community!
It’s time to mark your calendars once again for the 16th Annual Pine Island Elementary Fishing Tournament & Derby. It will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Olde Fish House Marina in Matlacha. Most people don’t realize that this event has raised over $175,000 for our island school in the past 15 years, and our goal is to break all records this year to help our island children!
It’s a special day of fishing, fantastic food, live music and fund-raising! The event features a tournament for the children that runs in conjunction with a tournament for adult anglers that features $2,500 in cash prizes!
How, you might ask, can you help make this event a success? It’s easy! Sign up to fish the tournament as an adult angler or come out and show your support by attending the event. It has become a tradition for many island families, and the memories created will last a lifetime!
You can also show your support by sponsoring a child for just $30 (which includes a new fishing rod and reel, live bait, a tournament T-shirt, lunch, drinks, treat bag, activities throughout the day and a chance to win a new bike and safety helmet).
