Thank you for the support for the Island Food Pantry
To the editor:
This is a report and thank you to all who support the Pine Island Food Pantry. In 2013, the pantry had 1,388 family visits serving 3,699 adults, children and seniors. We provide clients with the following food items one time per month: fresh eggs, milk, cheese, pasta, canned fruit and vegetables plus frozen meats from Winn-Dixie. Personal care items are available. Breads and pastries are distributed to all clients on pantry days. Anyone living on Pine Island or Greater Matlacha, meeting government income guidelines is welcome to register.
The panty is an ecumenical ministry located at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 12175 Stringfellow Road, and is open Mondays and Thursdays for 8:30-10:30 a.m. The housing and utilities’ costs are covered by the Catholic Church. The pantry is a tax deductible charity operated by the board of directors and over forty volunteers.
With government cutbacks of food stamps and unemployment benefits, the demand on the panty has increase. Your continued support is needed and greatly appreciated. Thank you from our clients and volunteers. Wishing you a happy and blessed new year.
