Islander offers health update
To the editor:
So many people have stopped by the shop (Carl’s Service) to ask about my health I thought I would post this in the Eagle.
I was diagnosed just over a year ago with small cell lung cancer. The prognosis was grim so I went back to Illinois to be with family. The doctor up there said he could cure me. I went through chemo and radiation (lost my hair it came back in grey/white) then had brain radiation and lost my hair again. It came back in brown/wavy with male pattern baldness. The doctors up there and down here have declared the tumor dead and a complete recovery is expected.
I still get tired very easily but I am going to try to be at the shop a couple of hours morning and afternoon. I look forward to seeing friends and customers. I thank all of you for the prayers and well wishes. I know the prayers “made the difference.”
I want to thank the whole crew at Carl’s Service for keeping everything together during my absence, and thank the good folks at The Eagle for letting me post this.
God bless America,
Carl Humphrey
