Disappointed in zoning board for allowing RV park to be built
To the editor:
I live in Pine Island Village on Turtle Trail in St. James City. When I built my home I was told that single-family dwellings would be built west of us in the second phase of Pine Island Village. Needless to say I’m disappointed that the zoning board has allowed Windjammer RV Resort to build an RV park instead.
Single-family dwellings fit in with the surrounding neighborhoods, however, the transient nature of an RV park will, I feel, destroy the integrity of the residential environment. I’m concerned about the impact of constant RV traffic coming into our development from Stringfellow. The additional traffic will impact the entire island, our new bridge, and hurricane evacuation routes.
My concerns are shared by the Greater Pine Island Civic Association, Pine Island Village Association and Pine Island Cove Association. All have voted no to the Windjammer Project. Please consider sending an e-mail to Commissioner Manning at dist1@leegov.com to tell him about islanders’ concerns and ask him to vote no on this issue at the Lee County Commissioners meeting on Feb. 4.
