Voter ID laws
To the editor:
This is concerning the new voter ID laws that have many Floridians upset. In order to vote they must have a photo of themselves, drivers license, etc. A lot folks don’t have photo IDs. Last week, in her letter to the Eagle, Donna Loibl writes, “If you’ve ever rented a car, bought an airline ticket, taken out a mortgage, opened bank accounts, you’d have to have a picture ID.”
Yes, that may be true. But many of the people who are asked to show photos, do not fit into any of those categories. They live in apartments, drive a bus to work, certainly can’t afford to fly. They may have a bank account but I’m not sure that all banks require a photo ID. So you see how difficult it may be for some. Of course in Texas, they won’t accept a college student ID, but if you have a gun license, well that photo is acceptable. Thanks for taking the time to read.
