Election recommendations
To the editor:
We (Phil Buchanan and Noel Andress) are active in representing Pine Island on various Lee County boards and committees. Every election, we survey and, in some cases, interview the candidates for local offices with a view as to whom we should recommend for election. Our objective is to pick the candidates mostly likely to support Pine Island in land use planning and environmental protection – our main island issues.
We are pleased to recommend John Manning, Cecil Pendergrass, Charlie White-head, and Frank Mann as County Commis-sioners, as well as Jim Roach for our representative to Congress, in the Nov. 6, 2012, elections. We express no opinion as to the remaining office seekers.
This year, voters will be also confronted with a withering array of Florida Constitutional Amendments, many of them downright silly, undemocratic or favoring special interests. They are numbered 1-12 with no number seven. Only one of them has any merit – that’s number two, which provides an additional property tax exemption for disabled veterans. We recommend you vote yes on that one, and vote no on all ten of the remaining amendments.
