Thanks from the Pine Island Pool

To the editor:

The summer program came and went in a flash at the Pine Island Community Pool these pass eight weeks. The pool had full swim lessons all summer, with 132 kids enrolled. While many parents were able to afford to pay for the lessons, we were very fortunate to have generous sponsors to provide scholarship money. A big huge thank you to the Bobby Holloway Junior Foundation and Matlacha Mariners for making this possible. These are two great organizations that step up to the plate time and again for the Pine Island community.

I would personally like to thank all the staff at the Matlacha (Joe, Chris, George, Sue and Nina) for always being there helping us at the pool. They are always willing to give a helping hand.

On Thursday night, the Greater Pine Island Kiwanis held their first Family Fun Night at the pool. It was a great success with a big turnout of people. The grill was sizzling with the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers cooking. The crowd enjoyed all the fixin’s and fresh watermelons all night. Scarlett and Tonya Player did a fanatic job cooking and taking care of the patrons. We hope for this to be an annual event in the summer. So please, when you see these ladies or any member of the Kiwanis let them know how much you enjoyed this event.

And finally I would like to give a huge thanks to my wonderful staff for always being there and doing such a great job. My assistant Kory Herrin, on call and summer staff, Bob Zekanoski, Victoria Webb- Martin, Brittany Webb- Martin, and Sean O’Connor.
