RE: ‘Island residents urge support’ letter
To the editor:
I read with interest the letter in the July 25 Eagle endorsing candidates. One endorsement for a congressional candidate states, “He is the only candidate that knows (or appears to even care) about Pine Island Issues.”
It is one thing for a group to objectively endorse what is the best candidate (in that group’s opinion) and something else again simply because of party affiliation.
I am approaching six years as one of the directors of the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce. The only candidate that knows (or appears to even care) about Pine Island Issues is Jim Roach, who has worked tirelessly for Pine Island as a chamber director for eight years.
Jim is also the only candidate in the past four years who has ever accepted an invitation to speak to a Pine Island group such as the Kiwanis.
I would encourage anyone to ask the candidates what they think are the problems facing Pine Island and what are some potential solutions. Their answers may greatly surprise you.
