A glass of water

If you were served a glass of water and if, before you could take a sip, your server slipped a drop of fluoride (hydrofluorosilicic acid, a toxic waste product from the fertilizer industry), into the glass would, you drink it? Or if you were told to add one drop of this waste product in the filtered water that you mix with your baby’s daily formula, would you do it? How about dropping the fluoride into the boiling water that your are planning to prepare spaghetti with keeping in mind that fluoride does not dissipate like chlorine does, it just becomes more concentrated in the water as the water dissipates. No I don’t think that you would or the server would either.
Now would you agree to the above if you were told that fluoride in any form is a mineral nutrient? Maybe, if it is, but it isn’t. Fluoride is a gaseous element that must combine with another element such as calcium to become a mineral and in that form it is a drug when used medicinally and requires a prescription to be dispensed. The form of fluoride (hydrofluorosilicic acid) that will be injected into our water is classified as an unproven drug by the FDA not a mineral nutrient.
If there is nutritional value in the addition of fluoride to water, and the benefits outweigh the serious side effects that are known, the GPIWA should produce solid scientific evidence to prove their claim. There should be complete transparency showing the facts that drove the decision to fluoridate.
Telling the members to go to the ADA or other industry websites and check it out is not acceptable. That’s like asking the fox if its OK to leave the hen house door open. Publish sound scientific proof, not just in the Eagle, but in a mail-out to all association members and in a public notice so that business owners and rental residents will also have access to the information.
I have been a resident of Pine Island for over 20 years and have not found reason to doubt the operation of the GPIWA until now. This is not a condemnation of the board or any member but an attempt to provide the residents and board members alike with evidence of the seriousness of this action and a suggestion to rectify it.
