FISH needs volunteer drivers
To the editor:
Almost everyone on Pine Island knows of Pine Island FISH – the organization that provides Clothes for Kids, Christmas gifts through our Basket Brigade, loans of wheelchairs and other mobility equipment, emergency financial assistance and rides to doctors offices, banks and grocery stores for people with no other means of transportation.
You may not know that during the summer months, we have only 15-17 volunteer drivers to take our many clients to Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Pine Island. Just today, I had four calls for transportation and all of our volunteers were already taking clients or had other commitments. I had to turn down a client who just needed to get from Bokeelia to a dentist appointment in St. James City!
Perhaps there are a few islanders who might be interested in volunteering as a driver for FISH. It’s rewarding to get to know your fellow islanders, and we can use your help.
Please call the FISH line at 283-4442 to sign up to help, or go to our web site www.pineislandfish.org for more information. We hate to turn people down.
