Thank you Winn-Dixie and Domino’s

To the editor:

On Wednesday, June 15, the MPI Firefighters Auxiliary received a call from the Pine Island Firefighters about the quickly spreading fire on the north end of the Island. The department needed help and as members of the auxiliary, we provide and deliver water, Gatorade and the recommended food for these men who need to be on the scene of the fires for many long hours. In this instance it was for the next two days and nights, the duration of this 100-plus acre fire.

A call to the Pine Island Winn-Dixie who work with the auxiliary, and are aware of the needs, brought staff together and within a few minutes they had prepared, wrapped individually and boxed for transport the sandwiches ordered. Additionally, a staff member had loaded a cart with the crates of water and Gatorade and together, with sandwiches, it was loaded into a car for transport to the receiving area for supplies.

Meanwhile, the manager of Domino’s Pizza opened up early, fired up the pizza ovens and had pizzas and chicken wings ready for us in time to add it to the Winn-Dixie items for delivery.

There aren’t enough good words for these people here, on this Island, who reach out to help in any type of emergency.

Thank you, thank you, Winn-Dixie. Also to the gentleman at Domino’s who got the pizzas and chicken wings out in record time. Do we live in the best place in Florida, or anywhere, you think?

Our firefighters are much appreciated always, but especially, in times like these. They are the best!
