Pine Island Center 4-way stop
To the editor:
A short time ago, my car was in an accident moving south on Stringfellow Road at the start of the left turn merging lane. A young girl traveling behind my car on Stringfellow Road avoided the legal merging spot and crossed over the yellow road lines in order to reach the stop street before my car and side swiped the left side of my car. The police report indicated that the young girl was a fault. This illegal crossing of the yellow road markings go on daily. I attempted to check this out myself and counted 17 cars crossing over the yellow markings within a very short period, and without receiving a traffic violation. Some day a very serious accident will occur at that location.
I have made several phone calls to the Sheriff’s Department with suggestions to avoid further tragedies. I was told that there is no money to install a speed bump or rubber poles like at the Matlacha bridge.
I heard that in Lehigh Acres, tickets were issued for crossing the yellow lines, and within three weeks time, no one crossed the yellow lines. This would be a very good means for improving revenue for the Police Department as well as no more accidents.I intend to take this to the county, the news media and anywhere I can to help the situation.
