Stop all the complaining
To the editor:
I am so tired of reading letters from people who make their way into the Pine Island community, only to try to prevent others from doing the same. I’m sick of the way they have destroyed Pine Island by banning the nets, and therefore, destroying a self-sufficient community. We did not need new stores to boost employment, for there was plenty of work for everyone in the fishing industry, which did not necessarily mean being a netter. In addition to the netters, there were multiple fish houses which employed workers, there were net builders, there were the truck drivers, and the packers, etc. And these people who ultimately complain about every little thing that goes on around here, obviously have nothing better to do than protest and weed out the “undesirables”, whether they be people or businesses.
Anyone who moves here and builds a house here has to clear land to do it. Or it was cleared for that purpose beforehand. So, when you write about all of the wildlife being run off, remember, you once did the same.
You can not close the gates behind you just because you have made it across the Matlacha bridge, otherwise we would have locked it up 30 years ago.
