Coast Connection Old/New Florida

2 min read

To the editor:

In Bokeelia, at the end of Porto Bello Street, is a wonderful little spot of Old Florida and New Florida. Coast Connection calls itself a “Family Boating Center” but it is so much more than that! It is a unique business that provides many of the qualities Florida visitors and native locals enjoy the most.

It has boating in all forms. Kayaks, sailboats, motorboats, paddle boats, etc. You can also get a meal of fresh seafood, listen to music of all genres, fish, swim, see unique art from local artisans and most of all, enjoy the special ambiance that truly represents island culture at its best.

Historically, this location has been a thriving business, linking people to the water and all it provides, for years. Almost anyone who finds this part of paradise falls in love with it.

Porto Bello Street is lined with private homes now and one or some of the residents have forgotten that they live on a public road and on public waterways. They seem selfish and want to control the public business at the end of the street by using Lee County’s Code Enforcement Agency as the tool.

I say to any complainers:

1. Coast Connection is an important, local, cultural center for boating, music, art, food, fishing, swimming, fun and socializing. We did it like this before you moved here.

2. You are welcome to visit anytime. You may just enjoy yourself and have some fun. If you can’t beat them join them.

3. If you’re not interested, mind your own business.

4. Practice self-control and control your own selves.

5. Get a life of your own that does not include attacking other people’s lives and life styles.

6. Live and let live.

Sincerely,

B.J. Davis Phd
